PITTSBURG — People can burn calories — or just work up a bigger appetite,  before before the big Thanksgiving meal on Thursday.
Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its annual Give Thanks: Just 4 Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving at Wilderness Park, 907 W. McKay St., in Frontenac.
The event is open to runners of all ages and fitness levels.
The Parks & Recreation Department encourages people to bring their entire family — including dogs — to run, walk or jog, Recreation Superintendent Sara Vacca said. People can bring strollers for their children and may take a different course to bypass the rocky areas.
“This is a Just 4 Fun run to burn off calories before everyone sits down for their Thanksgiving meal,” Vacca said.
Pre-registration is not required for this race and there is no fee to participate, but donations are appreciated, Vacca said.
Proceeds from the event will support improvements at the Everybody Plays Playground in Schlanger Park.
