PITTSBURG — Area first graders — in pajamas — took a special trip in the Watco Christmas Express on Monday.
The annual event was hosted by Watco Company’s All Aboard Foundation, which began approximately three years ago.
"We wanted to give every kids at the school a train ride," All Aboard Foundation President Brad Snow said.
The students — from USD 250,, Frontenac and St. Mary’s Colgan — watched the movie “Polar Express” at school and the foundation provided railroad safety rules and a short video to help the children learn about safety when it comes to railroads.
During the ride, the children passed by Santa Claus, who was in a bucket truck at Westar Energy. He was in a bucket truck so he can wave at all of the children through the train windows.
The children were given a sweet treat and a bell — like in the movie —  then were sent on their way back to school.
