PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Purple Dragons Girls’ Varsity team fell to Parsons 45-39 to drop to 0-2 on the year.

In the boys’ contest, the Purple Dragons grabbed a 66-61 win over the Vikings.

Javon Grant and Gavyn Elkamil controlled the pace of the game for Pittsburg, with Trenton Austin and Jerek Butcher picking up some of the scoring burden as well.

“We had a few slip-ups, but it feels good to be able to compete against and finish off a good team like Parsons.” said Elkamil.

“A win against a top team early in the year goes a long way in boosting our confidence.” added Elkamil.

Although the girls’ ultimately fell by a few possessions, they showed a much better display of scoring then in their first week versus Nevada.

Next up, Pittsburg host Chanute on Friday, before traveling to the Webb City tournament on Saturday.

Over in Frontenac, the Lady Raiders fell to Louisburg 57-51, followed by the boys' varsity team falling 69-47.
